I have mentioned in past blogs about how I use journaling to set myself up for success. It is how I focus on the positive and imagine a future AS IF it already here.
I use to journal in the past, but that type of journaling was more a confessing my shortcomings and working through my problems by writing out everything out. I will admit it is a dangerous thing to do because it focuses on the problem, not the solution. You must be cautious not to wallow as you’ll find yourself stuck.
Same with praying or just daydreaming. If your focus is on the problem, not the solution, you’ll find yourself frustrated, upset, and no better off than when you started.
How Do You Get Future Focused?
Let me share some of my favorite prompts for journaling that will get you more positively focused.
Some things to note.
- Journal when you can find 10-15 minutes of quiet time. That means no phone calls, checking texts, Facebook or Twitter or playing with the animals. This not only breaks your focus, it trains you to turn away from the things that make you uncomfortable. And let me tell you, you are going to be uncomfortable.
- Whether pen and paper or a computer and keyboard, your goal is to keep writing, even when you feel as if you don’t know what to write. Write nonsense if you have to, but don’t stop.
- It’ll be easy, then difficult, then you hit the sweet spot.
- You think you know. You don’t know. You may be stunned by what you write. This is the discovery, this is the unlocking of the door in your mind. But you only get there when you PUSH yourself to get past the uncomfortable parts.
